It has been a long time since I have written you. A lot has changed in the last twelve months. We continue to expand our services and add new features. We hope these new features have made a positive impact on your hosting experience. Below I will list some of the features and protections we have added over the past year, but first I want to briefly list a new feature that we are beta testing that I would like to announce.

This new antispam feature is free to all users. In our testing of this in-house developed product we saw dramatic decreases in spam. Because this product is brand new we have labeled it as still in BETA status. However, we would love for you to test this product out and give it a try and give us feedback on it. We believe it will eliminate approximately 90%+ of the spam that currently makes it to your inbox.

New Hosting Feature Improved in the last 12 months:

1) CPU Protection - No longer will a single site on a server impact the performance of other websites on the same server. This means much improve consistency and higher performance for 99% of our customers.
2) Memory Protection – No longer can a single user or program consume disproportionate memory that would cause slowdowns for our customers.
3) Bandwidth Compression – This allows our customers to see a 10-25% decrease in site load imes. This is especially noticeable for customers with slower internet connections. This does not speed up times of PHP/CGI scripts. For PHP/CGI scripts they will run at the same speed.
4) Process Protection – No longer will a single user be able to spawn runaway processes that cause the processors/cores to slow down trying to handle all the requests. This is especially useful when it comes to MySQL usage where sometimes hundreds of thousands of queries happen in short period of time (5 minutes).
5) Many other changes Too many to list in this email.

We hope you have been pleased with your service and will continue to use and recommend us. We are grateful to have you as customers and will always strive to give you the best possible hosting at the best possible price.

Often times when domains get hacked the hackers will launch malicious processes that use a great deal of CPU time and thus increase the load on the machine caused by your user. This does not necessarily mean that your sites are hacked, but they could be. To ensure that your user is not compromised and contributing to server load unnecessarily (and, also not engaging in illegal activity typically associated with these types of hacks) we ask that you review the following and act accordingly.
Most commonly hacking exploits of this nature occur through known vulnerabilities in outdated copies of web software (blogs, galleries, carts, wikis, forums, CMS scripts, etc.) running under your domains.

To secure your hosting site you should:

1) Update all pre-packaged web software to the most recent versions available from the vendor. The following site can help you determine if you’re running a vulnerable version: http://secunia.com/advisories/search/
- WordPress installations need to be updated to the latest version release.
- Any old/outdated/archive installations that you do not intend to maintain need to be deleted from the server.
You should check any other domains (if applicable) for vulnerable software as well, as one domain being exploited could result in all domains under that user being exploited due to the shared permissions and home directory.

2) Check your software control panel for outdated or unauthorized plugins/mods/components/etc. if applicable. Some exploits can add new plugins/components that continue the infection even if you’ve updated the core software version. Some plugins can themselves be the source of vulnerability, so it’s a good idea to ensure you’ve got the latest versions possible.

3) Go through all files under the affected user and look for anything that may have been modified or placed by the hacker. It is common for the intruder to place extra php blocks, iframes, javascript, tags, etc., frequently at the top or bottom of otherwise legitimate files. Often times this code is obfuscated or encoded such that you cannot tell what it does simply by reading it. Also note that hackers often leave behind shell/backdoor scripts that thy can later use to re-exploit the site even after all other vulnerabilities have been patched. Often these scripts are given innocuous names like “cache.php” or “template.php”, or they may be more direct is a dead giveaway.

Cuople days ago I tried to automatically upgrade one of my Wordpress blog on Hostlemon.com free hosting, but it’s failed due to this warning:
Unable to locate WordPress Root directory.
Installation Failed
Then I opened the File Manager and check the wordpress directory structure, I found that the Wordpress file is not located on htdocs folder (html_public). This is the default settings done by some free hosting provider such Hostlemon.com.

To handle this error, I add these codes to the wp-config.php that located on root directory:

if(is_admin()) {
add_filter(’filesystem_method’, create_function(’$a’, ‘return “direct”;’ ));
define( ‘FS_CHMOD_DIR’, 0751 );
}

Put it before the :

?>

Hope it helps you too!
